Help build hope for Lupus patients

May is Lupus Awareness Month and the non-profit Hope for Lupus Society is holding a fundraiser on Wednesday, May 24, at BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse, 1819 Washington Road, in Upper St. Clair, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Download the flyer and take it to the restaurant and 20 percent of your food and non-alcoholic beverage sales will go to the nonprofit.

Lupus, a chronic auto-immune disease that causes the immune system to become hyperactive, is often diagnosed when the patient is 15 to 44 years old. Ninety percent of Lupus patients are women. Mt. Lebanon Magazine intern Gabrielle Solarczyk created the society to help raise awareness and help people with daily living while waiting for a cure. Another goal for the society is to raise money to help people with co-pays, doctor appointments, prescriptions and a shuttle service to and from appointments.
