When Greg Gazica started work as a server at Bistro 19 [1], 711 Washington Road, 17 years ago, he never imagined he’d own the restaurant one day. “It’s definitely an honor,” he said.
Over the years, Gazica worked his way up to shift supervisor, then assistant manager and general manager. The transition to owner happened January 1.
In a statement, previous owner B DeFrancis said “I have the utmost confidence that Greg and the team will continue to uphold the high standards in consistency, quality and hospitality that have been the cornerstone to our success. I consider Greg to be my family, so you will be in good hands.”
Gazica is committed to keeping Bistro 19 the same restaurant Lebo loves. Except for a few décor changes here and there and seasonal menu adjustments, the restaurant will continue offering higher end comfort food and new American cuisine. “I am looking forward to continue running the restaurant that I love so much,” he said.
All the signature dishes, like sea bass, stuffed shrimp and pork tenderloin, are staying, and so is the staff. Sunday brunches, which went away during the pandemic, are coming back, much to the delight of customers who never stopped asking about them.
Meantime, DeFrancis will remain at the helm of Altius on Mt. Washington, but she won’t be a stranger to Bistro 19, with plans to help out by doing a guest manager shift every now and then.
