The Mt. Lebanon Fire Department’s mission is to serve and safeguard our diverse community through the delivery of professional, efficient and effective services protecting life, property and the environment. Its vision is to be leaders in delivering the highest quality and most cost-effective prevention, education and emergency services.
Operating out of the public safety center, the department is composed of 18 paid fire officers, more than 40 volunteer firefighters, a secretary and data entry clerk. On average, the department responds to approximately five calls a day and participates in more than 1,000 fire prevention activities a year.
The department is one of fewer than 300 fire agencies in the U.S. and Canada to receive accreditation from the Commission on Fire Accreditation International and one of fewer than 400 to have an ISO Class 1 rating.

Fire Prevention Division
Fire Safety Consultation The Mt. Lebanon Fire Department has safety experts on staff who will come to your home and inspect your smoke detectors and chimneys and provide advice that will keep you safe. Firefighters will tour your home, answer questions, make recommendations, help you craft a fire escape plan and check your electrical systems to ensure they’re safe to use.

School Safety The fire department teams up with the Mt. Lebanon School District for fire and life safety classes. The age-appropriate, comprehensive curriculum provides children with important lifelong safety lessons. Visit www.mtlfd.org/kids-station [5] to see what the kids are learning.

Citizens Fire Academy Spend 10 weeks learning what it takes to be a Mt. Lebanon firefighter. Through classroom lectures, facility tours and demonstrations, participants learn what it’s like to be in a firefighter’s boots. Try on equipment and even participate in a real structure fire scenario.
