Finish Lines: Fake Lebo
You can find Fake Lebo, an anonymous (we really DON’T know who is behind it) comedic presence on Facebook, with clever, not-safe-for-work riffs on living in Mt. Lebanon with barbs lobbed at our neighbors. We felt this was a fitting conclusion to our “Finish Lines” series. Look for a cool new “last page” feature starting next month.
We last interviewed you in the magazine in 2010. How have you changed since then? We are a little older, a little wiser and a little more cynical but our mission is still the same: reminding residents how great we have it inside the bubble as well as providing the most accurate Lebo news, public service announcements and status information to residents. We pride ourselves as being ‘TMZ meets LeboALERT’ on steroids.
What would you change about Mt. Lebanon if you could?
Not a thing. Well, perhaps one more mattress store and two more bakeries. I would also like to see The Almanac become its own TV network with not only news but original programming as well (I would pitch Housewives of Lebo to Almanac network execs). With the success of turf in Lebo, I say we keep going and don’t stop until every lawn in Lebo is turfed. And finally, with all the new sidewalks we are getting, I really hope they donated our old ones to Goodwill so USC can finally get a shot.
Mt. Lebanon doesn’t have a mayor, but if we did, who should it be?
Well, when I was a kid, I always thought Mayor McCheese sounded like a cool name for a mayor. My less fortunate cousins from Keystone Oaks used to talk about him a lot. I think he used to be the mayor of Dormont. Mark Cuban always said he wanted to be the first mayor of Lebo … but he’s too busy jumping the Shark Tank. Officer Gregory has all the requirements for political office but just can’t stay out of rehab, so Joe Manganiello seems like the obvious choice.
Why is it important to laugh?
To be able to laugh at oneself is actually linked to better confidence, self-awareness and mental health. It sounds cliched, but laughter truly is the best medicine. Eating cake, keeping up with the Joneses, providing basic comforts for our children (those Range Rovers don’t buy themselves) can create a lot of stress. But also, the world has changed a LOT recently both inside and outside of the bubble. I’ve read that laughing draws people together in ways that cause healthy physical and emotional changes in the body. It boosts your mood, inspires hope, connects you to others, keeps you grounded, and protects you from the effects of stress. It also helps you release anger and forgive sooner. We ALL need a healthy dose of that kind of medicine.
