election time

PG EDITOR SPEAKS Executive Editor David Shribman will discuss his perspectives on elections, politics and the race for the presidency, 7 p.m., Tuesday, September 11, at Mt. Lebanon Library. The program will conclude with a Q&A. Shribman, who joined the Post-Gazette in 2003 after 10 years as the Washington bureau chief for The Boston Globe, received the 1995 Pulitzer Prize in journalism for his coverage of the Washington and the American political scene. His column, National Perspective, is syndicated to more than 50 papers nationally and he is a contributing editor of Fortune magazine.

EDUCATE YOURSELF The League of Women Voters of Greater Pittsburgh invites all voters—men and women; Democrat, Republican or Independent—to its free program, “The National Debt: Why Does it Matter to You,” 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, September 20, at the Rivers Club. For those who want to stay and continue the discussion, a dinner will be held at 7 p.m. For details on cost and to make reservations, contact the league at 412-261-4284 or info@pgh.lwv.org.

As the election nears, remember that the league’s website, www.palwv.org/pittsburgh, offers information about the new photo ID law and a Voter’s Guide, which includes bios about the candidates and their answers to questions about issues that they will be addressing if elected.
