Tails & Tales Summer Reading Program [1]
June 7 to August 9
Warmer weather opens up our reading options. Sit by a pond with some Thoreau. Read The Natural in between innings at PNC Park. If you’re going to the shore, maybe take something cheerier than On the Beach (post-apocalyptic, nuclear holocaust, spoiler alert: everybody dies horribly). In recognition of the change of seasons, enroll in Mt. Lebanon Public Library’s summer reading program, Tails & Tales. Probably animal related? We’re guessing? Earn points by reading and completing fun challenges which will qualify you for weekly raffle prize drawings. Stop by the library to stock up, or order a specialized Book Bundle.
Second Saturdays
Mt. Lebanon’s own Mackin Band will perform at the Uptown Market on the second Saturday of each month. The market is held weekly on Saturdays in the South Lot, from 9 a.m. to noon, but Second Saturdays take it up a notch with music and arts and crafts in addition to the regular food vendors. The Mt. Lebanon Lions Farmers Market also opens this month, from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesdays in the Mt. Lebanon United Lutheran Church parking lot.
Bite-Sized Buhl
Educators from Carnegie Science Center’s Buhl Planetarium will conduct virtual tours of the night sky on the science center’s Facebook [2] page. Learn about stars, planets, constellations and other astronomical wonders.
Block Party
Sunday, June 27
Sunset Hills United Presbyterian Church is hosting a block party [3] from 5 to 8 p.m. Enjoy sampling from five food trucks. Kids can also check out a local fire truck, which will be there from 6 to 7.
Music from St. Michael
All are welcome at the Saint Michael the Archangel Parish Concert Series [4]! Enjoy a free concert and food trucks while watching the sunset from the Our Lady of Grace parking lot, 310 Kane Boulevard, from 7 to 10 p.m., the second Saturday of the month. Traditional Irish music from Jim Lamb on June 12, plus the Bado’s and Betsy’s Ice Cream trucks. Other bands are Silent Partner on July 10, Mansfield 5 on August 14 and an as-yet unnamed act on September 11.
Greek Food
June 16 to 18
Get your favorite hand-prepared Greek delicacies from the annual Holy Cross Greek Food Festival without leaving your car. Simply place your order online [5], choose a pickup time and volunteers will bring the food to you. Hours are noon to 7 p.m.
The Hidden Life of Trolls
Through Sunday, September 26
In its most immersive flower show yet, Phipps Conservatory [6] will take visitors on a magical adventure with trolls. Plants and animatronic elements will bring to life these mythological creatures found in folklore and pop culture. Guests must follow COVID-19 protocols and book timed tickets in advance.
Celebrate the South Hills

Mt. Lebanon Police Association’s annual car show features food, entertainment and plenty of cars from hot rods to cruisers to sedans. Admission is free.
Relay for Life
