Beginner and intermediate level photographers can learn from a National Geographic expedition photographer at the Mt. Lebanon Public Library. Sponsored by the Photo Section Photography Club, Aaron Raymond will lead the class through all the facets of photography—from exposure and settings to composition and equipment. The cost is $10, and you must register in person at the circulation desk. Classes are 7 to 8:30 p.m. in Room A.

AUTHOR DINNER
Wednesday, October 16
Meet Marie Benedict, author of Carnegie’s Maid; The Only Woman in the Room and The Other Einstein, at the Historical Society of Mount Lebanon’s annual fundraising dinner at 6 p.m. at St. Clair Country Club. Open bar, raffle and silent auction featuring items to enhance genealogy studies, and a week in a vacation home in Charleston, South Carolina. Tickets start at $80. RSVP by October 10, 412-251-8567.

MUMMIES OF THE WORLD
Starting October 5
The largest exhibition of mummies ever assembled is making a stop in Pittsburgh at the Carnegie Science Center. Explore 125 real mummies and related artifacts from Europe, South America, ancient Egypt and more. Tickets to the exhibit are separate from museum admission.

ZOO BOO
October 19, 20, 26 & 27
Pittsburgh Zoo will have a trick-or-treat trail, haunted house, character meet-and-greets, a dance party, elephant photos and costume contests at its popular Zoo Boo events. Hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., rain or shine, and costumes are welcome.

MOVIE NIGHT
Friday, October 18
The Denis Theatre Foundation presents A Movie Night in Mt. Lebanon, with a free screening of the acclaimed indie film Hearts Beat Loud, starring Nick Offerman, at 7:30 p.m., in the Washington School auditorium. A post-movie discussion will follow.

ART FOR A CAUSE
Wednesday, November 6
Enjoy a holiday cookie table, entertainment, shopping and the gallery at Artsmiths of Pittsburgh at this festive event, 5 to 8 p.m. Proceeds benefit Mt. PUMPKIN PATCH
October 12 – 31
Each year, Sunnyhill Unitarian Universalist Church of the South Hills hosts a pumpkin patch to raise money for the Navajo Indian Reservation in Farmington, New Mexico. In addition to the pumpkins, past events have included food trucks, activities and an open house. Daily hours and activities can be found on Sunnyhill’s Facebook page.
