Beautify our parks
Help Mt. Lebanon Nature Conservancy remove invasive plants from Twin Hills Park on Saturday, July 21, and from Bird Park on Saturday, August 18. Park cleanups run from 9 a.m. to noon. Wear gloves and comfortable clothes you don’t mind getting dirty.
Pittsburgh Walking Tours
Explore the city with Pittsburgh History and Landmark Foundation’s free walking tours. Two tours are offered each Friday this summer. July’s focus is Oakland’s historic building, with tours starting at the corner of Forbes Avenue and Schenley Drive at 10 a.m and at noon at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall. August showcases downtown. Meet at the corner of Smithfield Street and Fourth Avenue for the 10 a.m. tours of the Fourth Avenue Historic District. The noon tours meet at the Gateway T Station and cover the Gateway Center area.

First Fridays
July’s First Friday, 7 to 10 p.m., July 6, will feature reggae music group The Flow Band, strolling performers, sidewalk sales and more. In August, First Friday is reimagined as UltraParty, from 8 p.m. to midnight on August 3, with beer, food trucks and music by ’80s cover band Velveeta. Washington Road will close to make room for summer fun.
Jessie Games
Enjoy the fifth annual Jessie Games from 1 to 4 p.m., Saturday, July 21, at Central Catholic High School. The event features races, a dunk tank, a jumping castle, a watermelon-eating contest and more, with proceeds benefiting Catholic Charities. The games memorialize Jessie Egan Smith, daughter of Mt. Lebanon residents Clare Ansberry Smith and Matt Smith, who died in 2013.
Outreach Golf Outing
Register by September 5 for Outreach Teen & Family Services’ third annual Golf Outing. The event is on Monday, September 24, at South Hills Country Club. Tickets are $175 each or $700 per foursome, and proceeds benefit Outreach.
Classic Car Show
Join the Mt. Lebanon Police Department on Washington Road from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Sunday, July 8, for the 23rd Annual Car Show! Enjoy food, vendors, live music from the Good Guys Duo and dozens of classic and classic-inspired cars. The event is rain or shine, and it’s free.
MLJWC Social
Interested in joining Mt. Lebanon Junior Women’s Club? Learn about the club’s social, civic and philanthropic initiatives while mingling with members and enjoying refreshments at 7 p.m., Thursday, August 23. Email membership@mljwc.com to RSVP.
Community Concert
A full choir and orchestra will perform a public concert at 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 19, at the Mt. Lebanon Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 255 Washington Road. Admission is free, but donations are welcome.
Whiskey Rebellion Day
Go back in time to the Whiskey Rebellion and join the soldiers of Wayne’s 4th Sub-Legion as they drill for conflict. From 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, July 15, at Woodville Plantation in Bridgeville, Whiskey Rebellion Day will feature battle reenactments, musket firing exhibitions, cooking demonstrations, tours of the house and more. Woodville Plantation is a National Historic Landmark dedicated to interpreting 18th century life in Western Pennsylvania, with a focus on the historic Neville family.
Tyke Hike
Venture Outdoors invites caregivers with children, from newborn to 5 years old, on a two-mile hike suitable for strollers, slings, child-carriers or on foot. The event starts at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 11, in South Park. Hang around after the hike for crafts, snacks and fun. The hike is free, but pre-registration and a suggested $5 donation is recommended.
Happy Birthday, Andy!
Andy Warhol was born on August 6, 1928, which means he would be celebrating his 90th birthday this year! Take the kids to the Andy Warhol museum from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, August 4, to enjoy family-friendly activities and a festive atmosphere in honor of Pittsburgh’s favorite pop artist.
Learn the sport of kings
Yes, falconry still exists. In fact, you can even become a certified falconer. Learn how from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, August 18, in a presentation by the National Aviary’s certified falconer, Cathy Schlott. Schlott will cover the history, practices and theories behind the sport, while also conducting a flying demonstration with the aviary’s falcons.
Ballet Under the Stars
Starting at 5 p.m. on Sunday, August 19, at Hartwood Acres, Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre will present a free evening of classical and contemporary ballet performances, photo ops with costumed dancers, kids crafting and dance activities and more! Get there early to stake out your spot!
Talent Call
Harmony Singers of Pittsburgh will host its open house and welcoming reception for returning and prospective members at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 4, at the Bright wood Christian Church. All voice parts are welcome. Members are required to attend weekly rehearsals at the church during the concert year.
