SALON OPEN HOUSE
The very first Pittsburgh Photo Section competition was in 1898. Now, 120 years later, the best images submitted this year by the members of the Photo Section, Academy of Science and Art of Pittsburgh, will be on display on the upper level of Mt. Lebanon Recreation Center from 1 to 4 p.m., Sunday, April 8. Judges will award prizes to the best photographs in 11 categories. CELEBRATE THE EARTH
Earth Day is officially Sunday, April 22, so keep an eye out for regional events that weekend. Our Mt. Lebanon celebration is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday, April 22, at Mt. Lebanon Park. The Pittsburgh Zoo will kick off the weekend Friday, April 20, with Wild Earth Day, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., which will feature discovery stations around the zoo to promote wildlife learning, conservation and animal enrichment. If you’d like to do something nice for the Earth on Earth Day, consider joining in South Park’s Earth Day Park Cleanup. Meet at the Tamarac Shelter, 9 a.m. Saturday, April 21.
KEYNOTES FASHION SHOW
Enjoy a luncheon, raffles and fashion show by Chico’s of the Galleria at the Keynotes of the South Hills Annual Benefit, at 11:15 a.m., Saturday, April 21, at Valley Brook Country Club. The Keynotes Scholarship Program has awarded a total of $374,000 to music students of exceptional talent since it began in 1969. MARTHA’S RUN The 22nd annual Martha’s Run, in memory of Mt. Lebanon native Martha Dixon, an FBI agent killed in the line of duty, is Saturday, April 14. The 10K race, two-mile fun run and one-mile memorial walk begin at 9 a.m at the high school stadium. Children’s races begin at 10:15. A celebration, including the presentation of the awards follows at Martha’s Playground in Mt. Lebanon Park.
Proceeds from the race go to the Martha Fund, which has raised $135,00 over the years and provided grants for 20 playgrounds and playground improvements in the Pittsburgh area, including its signature playground in Mt. Three-time All-Star baseball player Sean Casey will coach the Miracle League’s summer Champions Camp from June 19 to 21.
