Walk the track. Light a candle. Buy something at a booth. Or just show up at Mt. Lebanon High School track on June 15-16 for the Mt. Lebanon Relay for Life to celebrate the victories of cancer survivors and remember those who lost the battle. The American Cancer Society fund-raiser kicks off at 9 a.m., Saturday and lasts until 9 the next morning. www.relayforlife.org/pamtlebanon [1].
Every summer, Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church on Gilkeson Road (across from The Galleria) serves up some of the best Greek treats in town as part of its food festival. This year, the event runs Wednesday, June 12, through Saturday, June 15. Lunch is 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and dinner is 4:30 to 9 p.m.
Get takeout or enjoy an alfresco meal on the church’s patio—or sit inside and enjoy live Greek music and dancing. The church will be open for tours.
New this year: You’ll be able to purchase baklava and food fair bargain gift cards ($50 cards for $40) at the June 7 First Friday and the June 1 and 8 Washington Road Farmers’ Markets. Look for the Holy Cross table outside Sesame Inn.
This year’s Urban Garden Party, the Mattress Factory’s signature fundraiser, Friday, June 21, is all about soul. It’s right there in the title, Soul Factory: Motown at the Museum, designed to get people revved up for the Factory’s fall exhibit, Detroit: Artists in Residence.
General admission tickets are $100 ($75 for Mattress Factory members) and feature live entertainment, open bar and more than 40 food vendors. VIP tickets are $250 ($200 for members), and include a pre-party, private bar and courtyard. Purchase your ticket at www.showclix.com/event/3744774 [4].
All proceeds benefit the Mattress Factory’s artistic programs, exhibitions and education outreach.
