First FIRST Friday
Pittsburgh’s Grievous Angels will perform at First Friday on June 2 from 7 to 10 p.m. in Uptown Mt. Lebanon. The band has a strong local following, as Mt. Lebanon artist and musician Stacy Innerst is the drummer. They are known for their blend of folk, rock and soul music, and audiences can expect a mix of recognizable classics with Grievous Angels originals. www.mtlebopartnership.org

 

Three Rivers Arts Festival
One of the largest free arts festivals in the world, the Three Rivers Arts Festival will be held from June 2 to 11, with activities planned in Point State Park, the Cultural District and Gateway Center. In addition to hundreds of Artist Market and food booths, the festival will also feature art exhibitions, kids’ activities and performances by local performing arts companies and guest musicians such as Rebirth Brass Band, Dawes and Sarah Jarosz. Bicycle Show
If you are a bicycle enthusiast, you won’t want to miss Bicycle Heaven’s Annual Bicycle Show & Swap Meet on Saturday, June 10, and Sunday June 11. Peruse antique bikes and parts, participate in the bike swap, enjoy food and music or just hang out with fellow cyclists. Jazzy June
Head to Pittsburgh’s Cultural District Friday, June 16, to Sunday, June 18, for the Pittsburgh JazzLive International Festival, which offers jazz concerts all weekend, many of which are free and open to the public. The festival kicks off Friday with a free “jazz crawl” to different bars and venues downtown. Mattress Factory Parties
The Mattress Factory’s acclaimed Urban Garden Party is celebrating its 20th anniversary Friday, June 16, with an outdoor celebration with dancing, unique dining and cocktails and more. Mt. Lebanon Magazine photographer Martha Rial will be hosting an early morning photography walk at Nine Mile Run Watershed Association from 7:30 to 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 17. Martha, a Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist, will lead a walk through the restoration area while providing tips that will be useful for experienced photographers and Instagram enthusiasts alike. www.NineMileRun.org

 

Bell Bottoms and Bright Lights
Mt. Lebanon-based nonprofit Lend-ing Hearts is hosting a fundraiser at The Andy Warhol Museum Thursday, June 22, at 7 p.m. The event is ’70s-themed, with disco dancing, food and cash prizes. Lending Hearts was founded by Vasso Paliouras to help provide free emotional and social support to children and young adults with cancer. She was inspired by her sister, Constance, who battled Stage 4 Hodgkin lymphoma while attending Mt. Lebanon High School and has since gone into remission.

Lebo Tennis Tournaments
The Mt. Lebanon Tennis Center will be closed from Friday, June 23, through Friday, June 30, while the center hosts two major tournaments—the Men’s Futures of Pittsburgh Pro Tournament and the West Penn Amateur Collegiate Tournament, which is the oldest amateur tournament in the country. The public is invited to watch the feature matches of the Men’s Futures tournament at 5:30 p.m. every night from Tuesday, June 27, to Friday, June 30. The feature matches will include music, a flag ceremony, chair umpires and more. www.JDevils.com

 

Town and Country
More than 500 people are expected at the Pittsburgh Botanic Garden’s 20th Annual Town and Country Tour on Sunday, June 25. The fundraiser tours 14 of the best private gardens in Pittsburgh’s East End.  People can take a self-guided tour ($55) or a bus tour that includes lunch at Edgewood Country Club ($135). Independence Day in Lebo
Enjoy games, amusements, food and family-friendly activities from noon to 5 p.m. at Mt. Lebanon’s July 4 Community Day in Mt. Lebanon Park. A 7:30 concert by Tres Lads acoustic trio precedes the fireworks extravaganza, which will begin at 9:30.

 

Graves & Goblins
The Historical Society of Mount Lebanon’s popular Graves & Goblins tour is now available as a private self-guided tour. The $50 group presentation includes a slide show on the history and highlights of the cemetery, information about famous people buried there, ghost stories and a tour map. www.LeboHistory.org

TEDxPittsburgh
TEDxPittsburgh is partnering with the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust for its annual conference, Awakening: Ideas on the Rise, Sunday, June 4, at the Byham Theater. The conference will feature multiple speakers including performers, filmmakers and other local leaders who will share their ideas related to technology, entertainment and design. Just like the national TED conference, if you can’t attend in person, you can watch the speeches online after the event. www.tedxpittsburgh.org

CATurday
Go to the Carnegie Museum of Art on Saturday, June 10, for a day of feline-themed family fun from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The museum is celebrating the launch of the Art Cat’s Sketchbook with drawing activities led by Art Cat creator Dave Klug. The event will also feature cat-themed events and the chance to meet adoptable cats all day long. Bring a drawing of your favorite cat for $2 off admission and to contribute to the museum’s community cat gallery. www.CMOA.org

Summer at the Center
The first session of The Center for Theater Arts’ Summer at the Center runs Monday, June 19, to Thursday, July 13. Kids ages 4 and up can sign up for classes and workshops focused on musical theater, audition skills, cabaret, hip hop, acting and more. Sensory Friendly at the Symphony
On Saturday, June 17, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra is hosting a sensory friendly John Williams concert designed for John Williams fans of all ages, especially those with autism spectrum disorders, sensory sensitivities and other disabilities. The concert is at 2:30 p.m. at Heinz Hall, with pre-concert activities planned for 1:15 p.m.

Summer Swing
This year’s theme for St. Clair Hospital’s Summer Swing fundraiser is “Broadway on the Green.” Held at St. Clair Country Club on Friday, July 14, the evening will feature gourmet food stations and performances from Rema Webb, who starred on Broadway in The Color Purple, The Book of Mormon and The Lion King.
