Center for Theater Arts’ (CTA) 35th annual gala, Reach for a Star, is Saturday, March 12, at the Hilton Garden Inn at Southpointe. It will feature a dinner, auctions and special guest Henry Krieger, the Broadway composer who with lyricist Tom Eyen created the score for Dreamgirls, earning a Tony nomination and a Grammy award. Krieger received two Tonys for The Tap Dance Kid, and has worked on many productions over 35 years. The Mt. Lebanon Junior Women’s Club charity gala, “Spectacular! Spectacular!,” is at 7 p.m., Saturday, March 19 at the Doubletree, 1 Bigelow Square. A portion of the proceeds will benefit The Education Partnership, with funds purchasing homework kits for children in local schools. Club members will assemble the kits themselves and deliver them to needy children in schools this fall. Benefit chairs are Sara Brett and Maggie Poole. Tickets [3] are $90 each. A donation button is also available on the site for people who cannot attend but would like to donate to the charity.

Pittsburgh Pharaohs Hockey’s 9th annual “Lacin’ ‘em up for MDA” charity hockey game will be at 6 p.m., Saturday, March 26, at the Mt. Lebanon Ice Center. Proceeds benefit the Pittsburgh chapter of the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Admission to the game is a $10 donation to the MDA. Raffles, prizes and a bake sale.
