Serve2Cure: A Rally to Ace Cancer, one of Western Pa.’s largest charity tennis tourneys, will have its 5th annual tournament Friday, September 18, through Sunday, September 20, at Mt. Lebanon Tennis Center to benefit the Young Women’s Breast Cancer Awareness Foundation. Sue Byrne, Jenn Daley, Katy Duda, Margaret Izzo and Elizabeth Rychcik were on the planning committee. The event has categories for men, women, doubles and juniors in addition to cardio tennis classes, pro matches, raffles and silent auctions. It has raised more than $66,000 for cancer-related charities since its inception. Register online [1].

Pianist Alvin Zhu kicks off Music for Mt. Lebanon’s 70th season on Saturday, October 3, at Southminster Presbyterian Church. Zhu, a Mt. Lebanon native (Class of 2009) and Juilliard graduate, has performed with orchestras around the world. Zhu has been awarded the C.V. Starr Doctoral Fellowship at Juilliard. State Rep. Dan Miller is hosting a Senior Fair, from 9 to noon on Thursday, October 1, at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church, 123 Gilkeson Road. There’s still time to sign up for the Mt. Lebanon Fire Department’s Citizens Fire Academy, September 9 to November 15. Classes meet Wednesdays from 7 to 10 p.m., with one daylong Saturday class at the Washington County Fire Academy on November 7. Get a feeling for what it’s like to be a firefighter, and, if it looks like fun, maybe you could join the volunteer department. UPCOMING EVENTS Mainstay Life Services’ fundraiser, the Charlie Ross Memorial Charity Invitational Golf Outing, is Friday, September 18, at Lindenwood Golf Club in Canonsburg. The day includes 18 holes of golf with a cart, lunch, dinner, prizes, silent auction and raffle. Chabad of the South Hills and the South Hills Jewish Community Center will co-sponsor a high holiday seniors lunch at 12:30 p.m., on Tuesday, September 8, at the South Hills JCC, 345 Kane Boulevard. The event, which is wheelchair accessible, will include High Holiday music, honey cake for dessert and a guest speaker from the Jewish Association on Aging, who will host a talk called Relax, Refocus and Revitalize.
