HALLOWEEN PARADE Every year, the Great Pumpkin rises up out of the pumpkin patch that he finds the most sincere. Mt. Lebanon celebrates this every year with the Great Pumpkin Patch Parade. This year’s event starts at 11 a.m., on Saturday, October 25. Classic cars, marching bands, dancers, witches, Shreks, Super Marios, and who knows what all else. Probably candy!
FRIGHT NIGHT Mt. Lebanon Public Library’s annual Fright Night, 6:30 p.m., Friday, October 24, is a celebration of all things spooky with thrills and chills for the entire family. Costumes are optional, but, come on, it’s Halloween. Free refreshments at Franken’s Diner, creepy crafts, and scary books at the Book Cellar.
EN PLEIN AIR The Mt. Lebanon Partnership presents Plein Air, which runs October 5-12. This year’s neighborhood festival of the arts includes a brand new Artists’ Market, in the Academy Avenue Parking Lot, Saturday, October 11, from 10 to 6 and Sunday, October 12, from 10 to 5. More than 60 artists will sell handmade items, from jewelry to photography, pottery and woodworking. Food trucks from Oh My Grill, the PGH Taco Truck and Bella Christie & Lil’ Z’s Sweet Boutique will be there, and entertainment includes the Luke Williams Band, Center for Theater Arts, face painting, caricatures, and the Touchstone Center for Crafts. BIKE RAMBLE After a hiatus, the Mt. Lebanon Partnership is presenting the Tour de Mt. Lebanon bicycle ramble to help wrap up the Plein Air Mt. Lebanon festivities on Sunday, October 12, rain or shine. The $25 entrance fee will get you a T-shirt and a map. Register (and look at the map) at www.mtlebopartnership.org. Registration the day of the race begins at 7 a.m., with the ride kicking off at 8 a.m. at Alfred Street and Washington Road, at Clearview Common. Net proceeds will go toward establishing a bicycle/pedestrian fund through the Partnership to add amenities to the community.
MYSTERY! It used to be called Books & Bubbly. Now it’s called A Novel Affair. What gives? Get to the bottom of it at the library at 6 p.m., Saturday, October 25.
Word on the street is A Novel Affair is a fundraiser that has a mystery novel theme. Food, champagne, wine, beer, soft drinks, and signature cocktails inspired by fictional detectives. Live music and great bargains at the Book Cellar, the library’s used book shop. Admission is limited to adults, 21 and older. Cost is $30 in advance, $35 at the door.
LIGHT UP NIGHTS It’s not too early to start thinking about the holidays. Start off the season at Lebo Light Night, Thursday, November 20, Uptown from 6 to 9 p.m. Santa appears in Clearview Common at 7 to hear kids’ Christmas wishes. Stop by and ride in a horse and carriage and enjoy holiday music, including the Southminster Ringers.
The Gingerbread House Contest returns this year in the municipal building’s commission chamber, with categories for professional bakers/restaurants/caterers, adults, kids and teams. (To see details and register: www.mtlebanon.org/LeboLightNight.) Light nighters will vote for their favorite gingerbread house and the sweet “architect” will win prizes. This year’s contest is sponsored by Fresh Market.
The South Hills Model Railroad Club will have a model train exhibit in the municipal building through 9 p.m. Friday, November 21.
The Beverly Road Light Night is scheduled for Thursday, December 4 from 7 to 8 p.m.
