dive into pool concepts

Get a look at what architects are suggesting for improvements to the Mt. Lebanon Swim Center at a special, one-hour public meeting on Monday, March 25 at 6:30 p.m. in Commission Chambers. Mark Edelmann from EPM Architecture and Wayne Wade from Wade Associates will present initial concept designs for improvements to the pool, bathhouse and surrounding facilities, off Cedar Boulevard. Public comment will be welcome.

The project includes gutting and redesigning the inside of the pool house to add family changing rooms, private shower areas and making it all accessible to people with disabilities. Recreation director David Donnellan said other priorities include adding a beach-like entry so people of all ages can ease into the water.

Initial plans were to replace the 36-year-old pool shell itself, but Donnellan said after an audit, they determined that a renovation was more cost effective.

The contract with the architect also provides for some additional amenities that would be optional, such as a climbing wall and new slides. Although there are no cost estimates for the project yet, the budget is $3.3 million. Work is set to start the day after Labor Day, after the 2013 season ends so swimmers do not miss any time in the water.
