dealing with drones

Mt. Lebanon has no ordinance regarding the use of drones. The Federal Aviation Agency does have some regulations concerning drones and other unmanned aircraft. If you have a concern about a drone, call 911.

If you’ve ever had the feeling you’re being watched, only to look up and see a drone flying above your yard, you may have wondered if Mt. Lebanon has any rules about using the hovercrafts here. In a word, no.

Rules governing drones come from the Federal Aviation Administration, which limits how high (or low!) they may fly and how close they can get to airplanes.

Drones may be trespassing or harassment in some cases, however, says Police Chief Aaron Lauth,. “These situations will need to be judged on a case-by-case basis,” Lauth says, noting residents should call 9-1-1 if they are concerned or suspicious about the use of a drone in the neighborhood.

One thing you definitely cannot do with a drone—state game laws prohibit using drones to disrupt hunting or fishing.
