Crafting the perfect weekend

Art & Beer Pop Up debuts at Lebo Taproom

Crafts and Drafts pop-up events are coming to East End Brewing’s Mt. Lebanon Taproom.

Pop-ups are all the rage these days.

Crafts and Drafts, one of the areas first pop-up events to combine the love of local craft beer and local makers is coming to East End Brewing’s Mt. Lebanon Taproom, 651 Washington Road.

On the second Saturday of each month, East End will host a small group of rotating vendors from 12 to 3 p.m. on its outdoor patio, weather permitting. The fun begins Saturday, September 9.

Patrons can shop for handmade art and local goods, while sampling East End’s selection of beers, ciders, cocktails, non-alcoholic drinks and pizza.

Crafts and Drafts started at East End’s Larimer Brewpub in February 2015. The attendance was so overwhelming, leading to multiple events each year.

“Folks love being able to shop with a beer in their hand,” said Matt Buchholz, of Alternate Histories, which programs the Crafts and Drafts events.

“We’ve been hosting Crafts and Drafts events with Matt at our Larimer Brewery for over eight years. He’s the creative force behind these events, and curates the ever evolving list of participating artists and craftspeople. So it seems natural for us to bring this hugely popular local artist marketplace to our new Mt. Lebanon home, especially since we have so many incredible artists here in our Mt. Lebanon community,” said Scott Smith, East End Brewing’s owner.

While the Mt. Lebanon Taproom may not have the space for 800 or so guests to sip and browse inside, like they do at the Larimer location, the outdoor sidewalk area on Washington Road provides extra space so Crafts and Drafts can spread out a little, while still allowing the Taproom to take care of its regular beer and pizza crowd inside.

On September 9, local artists will include:

  • Worker Bird. Screen printed and handmade artwork from Kim Fox, who also drew the murals inside the East End Brewing Taproom.
  • Luster. Handmade jewelry from Samantha Bower.
  • Ren Butler Design. Illustration, prints, and more.
  • Greenhouse Co-Op. Houseplants from William, Tammy, & Darien plus info about their Cider brewery in Greenfield.
  • Music from Evan Lybrand, 2 to 4 p.m.

Additional Crafts and Drafts pop-up events are scheduled for the Mt. Lebanon Taproom on October 14 and November 11.
