Conservation Celebration
Earth Day 2018 in Mt. Lebanon, Sunday, April 22, is a fun event for all ages featuring crafts, educational activities, food and entertainment. This is our 10th anniversary celebration, so the Mt. Lebanon Environmental Team is planning an event to remember. The festivities run from 11 to 3 at Mt. Lebanon Park. Parking will be available in the Recreation Center Lot, in the Commissioners’ Lot and in the High School South Lot.
Learn about conserving energy, water and waste, about the benefits of eating food raised by local farmers, about protecting domestic and wild animals and their habitats, creating artwork from reclaimed or recycled products and the ins and outs of raising backyard chickens. You can even hold a chicken. They’re friendly!
Zero Fossil will present solar power and energy conservation demonstrations. Help us achieve Zero Waste by diverting 90 percent of our waste from landfill to composting or recycling by using our unique waste stations, provided by the Pennsylvania Resources Council.
Under the tent this year, you can participate in a yoga demonstration by the Himalayan Institute from 11-11:30, a meditation demonstration by Sahaja Meditation from 11:30 to noon, and a backyard composting workshop by the Pennsylvania Resources Council from noon to 1. Cost of the workshop is $70 per person or $75 per couple and includes a take-home composting bin. You need to pre-register .
Food vendors are Betsy’s Ice Cream, BRGR and Pitaland. They will be using compostable serviceware, so don’t forget to place the compostable items in the compost bins.
Music by Mt. Lebanon High School Orchestra ensembles from 1 to 2:30 and Suzuki music students from the Community Music School of Pittsburgh from 2:30 to 3.
Bring your reusable water bottles so you can quench your thirst by refilling with Seven Creeks Spring’s delicious spring water. Bring a sealed glass bottle of water from your home and Kangen Water will test it for chemicals and teach you how you can purify your water to various levels. Reduce waste and raise funds for the Mt. Lebanon Public Library by bringing used book donations for the Book Cellar. Have some fun when you bring a white T-shirt so you can tie-dye it using iron oxide reclaimed from passive mine reclamation systems.
