GET A JOB! Have some spare time? Want to make some scratch? Mt. Lebanon is looking for part-time help in a number of areas.
Mt. Lebanon Police Department has 42 crossing guards and a roster of substitutes. Numbers on the substitute list have dropped to eight in the past year, and the department is seeking applicants to bring the number back up to between 15 and 20. Substitute crossing guards earn $12.94 an hour. The MLPD provides the uniforms and two weeks of training. Pick up an application at the Public Safety Center, 555 Washington Road. You can apply for a substitute crossing guard position at any time throughout the year.
The recreation department has openings for skate guards at the rink and cashiers at the recreation center. Skate guards work as on-ice attendants during public skating sessions, handle skate rentals and assist in some light maintenance work. Applicants must be able to skate. Starting salary is up to $7.25 per hour. Cashiers maintain the facilities schedule, operate sound and point-of-sale systems, provide general customer service and process admissions and registrations. Starting salary is up to $8.50 per hour.
For both recreation jobs, a high school diploma or G.E.D. is preferred. Some evenings and weekends required.

HELP WITH MR. TAXMAN: The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program is available through April 15 to help prepare individual income tax returns for taxpayers who earn less than $52,000.
No appointments are needed. For help from certified volunteers, go to the Bible Chapel, 300 Gallery Drive in McMurray, Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Gallery Drive is five miles south of South Hills Village on the west side of Route. 19, adjacent to South Hills Chrysler/KIA. Follow signs 0.4 miles to the VITA entrance.
Taxpayers can receive assistance with federal, state and local wage tax returns and real estate/rent rebate and PACE applications. Please bring W-2s, all 1099s, (interest and dividend statements, social security and pension statements), totals of itemized deductions (medical, taxes, charitable) and social security cards for you, your spouse and dependents. Also bring copies of your 2013 federal and state tax returns, real estate tax receipts and receipts for large purchases such as cars. For direct deposit of your refund, have your bank account and routing numbers. Bring proof of identification for yourself and your spouse.
FIXING THE ROAD Golden Triangle Construction will be reconstructing Swallow Hill Road in Scott Township. The project is expected to begin March 17, weather permitting, and last until April 21. The road abuts Scrubgrass in Mt. Lebanon, where the road will be closed. Golden Triangle estimates that the road will be closed until April 21.
