CHURCH BELLS RING… As part of its Saints and Stained Glass series, the Historical Society of Mount Lebanon will host a tour of Southminster Presbyterian Church on Washington Road 2 p.m., Sunday, December 9. This tour will cover the history of the church, which was designed by Pringles and Tufts architects in the 1920s, as well as the stained glass windows that were styled after those in Chartres Cathedral in France. The tour will include a visit to the bell tower and a presentation about the carillon. ELECTRIFYING PROGRAM Mt. Lebanon Library presents “The Life and Work of Thomas Edison,” a new free series that starts Friday, November 2, and runs 10 a.m., Fridays through December 14 (no lecture November 23). Edison, known as “the Wizard of Menlo Park,” developed incandescent light, a power distribution system, the phonograph and movie cameras. Dr. Cleon Cornes will review Edison’s life and discuss the many ways his work has made an impact on our lives.
MEET THE AUTHOR If you enjoyed mtl’s September article, “What’s So Funny,” about Brigitte Martin and her new coffee table book Humor in Craft, stop at Mt. Lebanon Library 7 p.m., Monday, November 12, to meet her. Martin, Connecting Road, will discuss art and the craftspeople featured in her book and introduce you to a world of whimsical and funky contemporary craft. HISTORIC GIFT IDEAS The end of Mt. Lebanon’s centennial year is approaching, and you can show your appreciation for our 100-year-old community by buying Historical Society of Mount Lebanon’s holidays cards. HOLIDAY HOUSES The Mt. Lebanon office of Howard Hanna Real Estate Services is hosting its 22nd annual house tour on Saturday, November 10. Proceeds from the tour benefit the Children’s Hospital Free Care Fund.
Tickets are $25 and include a tour of eight homes, lunch, a Chinese and silent auction, 50/50 raffle, bake sale, book sale, and car raffle.
Tickets for lunch only are $8, or two for $15.
