Mt. Lebanon is offering recycling events for residents beginning this month and lasting into fall. Pennsylvania Resource Council (PRC) events are open to all.

ELECTRONIC DEVICES Saturday, April 20, May 18, June 15, July 20, August 17 and September 21. One free TV per vehicle. Mercury bulbs $2 each and $25 for appliances with refrigerant. Public works yard.

PAPER SHREDDING Saturday, April 27, May 25, June 22, July 27, August 24 and September 28. Public works yard.

WOODY WASTE CURBSIDE PICKUP Saturdays, April 13, May 11, June 8, July 13, August 10, September 14 and October 5. Reservation is required. Call 412-343-3403, between Monday and no later than 4:30 p.m. on the Thursday before pickup. Material is limited to shrubs, tree branches and limbs. Materials must be on the curb before 7 a.m. on the pickup day. Follow these guidelines:

  • Remove all dirt and debris from the roots of shrubs. Crews will not pick up soil, rocks, leaves, grass clippings and ornamental grasses.
  • Place small branches into piles (not bound) not exceeding 24 inches in diameter and 48 inches in length.
  • Large tree limbs should be no longer than 6 feet in length and no thicker than 5 inches in diameter.
  • The total amount put out for any pickup should not exceed more than can be placed into a single pickup truck. If the above guidelines are not followed, then the materials will be deemed uncollectable and left at the curb.

YARD WASTE DROPOFF Drop off yard waste at the golf course maintenance facility on Pine Avenue, on the first Saturday of the month, between the hours of 7 a.m. and 3 p.m., from April 6 through October 5. Leaves and garden residues in recyclable Kraft bags, small twigs, shrubs, brush and branches (under 3 feet) are accepted. No grass clippings, stones, soil, stumps, large limbs or plastic bags accepted.

BI-WEEKLY RECYCLING Metal cans, paper, cardboard and plastics with a number 1 or 2 on the bottom are recyclable as always by placing them curbside, loose in a container, with a Mt. Lebanon recycling sticker in plain view (stickers available at the municipal building and the library). Under our new contract, glass has moved out of the single-stream program; do not co-mingle it with other recyclables or put it at curbside.

PRC EVENTS You can still recycle glass. Drop off all colors of glass bottles, jars and jugs (no sorting required!) at free periodic pop-up (PRC) recycling events.

On the schedule (all events are from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.): April 6: South Fayette Municipal Complex; April 13: Dormont Pool; April 27: Avalon Borough Park; May 11: Village Square Mall parking lot (near Kohl’s); June 1: Avonworth Park, Kilbuck Township; June 8: Mt. Lebanon High School parking lot. Get more details or email: glass@prc.org.

You can also drop off glass for free at Michael Bros., 901 Horning Road in Baldwin. Separate it by color: clear, green and amber/brown.
