Hi, I’m Mindy Ranney, Commissioner from Ward 1. I am proud to serve my neighbors and friends here in Mt. Lebanon. I grew up in Hammond, Indiana, a steel town outside of Chicago, so the Pittsburgh area feels like home. I was raised by a single mom, and I attended Purdue University, studying engineering. After college, I lived and worked in five U.S. states as an industrial and software engineer. At age 26, I founded and ran a software consulting company which I ran for five years, growing the business to a couple million dollars in revenue. I’ve worked for clients in a variety of industries, including manufacturing, telecom, construction, biotech, entertainment, retail and tech. Lately I’ve primarily been home with our three kids while also volunteering and mentoring small business owners.

Recently I’ve been frustrated with our country’s political divide and ineffective governing, so I’ve increased my involvement in local government by supporting local candidates and now deciding to jump in myself and serve. I love Mt. Lebanon: our strong community, friendly neighbors and great schools. I’m excited about serving the diverse needs of all of our residents, across all incomes, religions and ethnicities.

Here are my goals for Mt. Lebanon as Commissioner: First and foremost, I want to invest in what makes Mt. Lebanon a special place to live­­­­—our charm, character, and excellent public safety services. Next, I want to make sure that we continue to uphold our values as a walking community by ensuring pedestrian safety for children and adults alike. Finally, I want to support our parks and recreation facilities so that everyone can enjoy this beautiful place we call home. I want to accomplish all of these goals through investing in environmentally sound initiatives to support Mt. Lebanon’s infrastructure and services for this generation and the next.

Article I, section 27 of the Pennsylvania Constitution provides as follows:

“The people have a right to clean air, pure water, and to the preservation of the natural, scenic, historic and esthetic values of the environment. Pennsylvania’s public natural resources are the common property of all the people, including generations yet to come. As trustee of these resources, the Commonwealth shall conserve and maintain them for the benefit of all the people.”

While attending various board and authority meetings over the past year, I’ve been blown away by the dedication and expertise of our residents to improve our amazing community. Every day I feel privileged to work with our highly regarded professional municipal staff and represent the competent, experienced and passionate people here in Mt. Lebanon.
