elcome to October. The weather is getting cooler, and Halloween is just around the corner. You may be hearing a certain song on the radio asking: “If there’s something strange in your neighborhood. Who you gonna call? If there’s something weird and it don’t look good. Who you gonna call?” Well, we have a dedicated municipal staff in Mt. Lebanon who can answer many of your questions and concerns.

Rudy Sukal is our director of public works. His department is responsible for the fall leaf pickup program, trimming our municipal trees (along the streets and in the parks), and overseeing the contractor who handles the weekly trash and biweekly recycling programs. His team also manages our street maintenance (i.e. filling potholes and fixing stormwater catch basins) and winter storm (i.e. salt trucks and snow plowing) programs. If you have a problem, such as an issue with a pothole, dangling municipal tree branch, blocked storm water grate, municipal sanitary sewer back up, or a missed trash pickup, please all Rudy’s office at 412-343-3403.

Rodney Sarver is in charge of our code enforcement/inspection department. His staff reviews properties in Mt. Lebanon for violations of our municipal code, whether it is construction debris left in a front yard, or a porch/roof/downspout in danger of falling from a structure, or a remodeling project started without first seeking a building permit. While they will issue a citation for correction that may need to be enforced by the district judge, they hope the property owner will fix the problem without legal action being necessary. If you see a condition that you are concerned about, please contact Rodney’s office at 412-343-3408.

Speaking of permits for modifications to your property, Rodney’s department reviews and issues them. They have a consultation service to chat with an inspector about your project. Appointments are from 2 to 5 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month and are 30 minutes each. You will need to pre-register at 412-343-3408 no later than 4 p.m. the Friday before your meeting. Hopefully, your meeting will help you expedite your building permit.

If you are a developer looking to build a new project in Mt. Lebanon, please reach out to Ian McMeans at 412-343-3420. He is our municipal planner and assistant municipal manager. He can walk you through our planning process, which will ultimately require approval from our municipal engineer, our planning board and the Commission.

Perhaps you have concerns about or wish to lease property in one of our business districts. Eric Milliron is the point of contact. He is our commercial districts manager, and he can be reached at 412-343-3412. His office also coordinates events in our business districts such as First Fridays and Beverly Brite Nite.

If you are curious about one of our many recreation programs, David Donnellan is our recreation director. He and his team supervise the recreation programs (i.e. Pilates classes), the tennis center (indoor tennis and platform tennis), the ice arena (hockey and figure skating), the pool and the golf course. His department can be reached at 412-343-3409.

Besides the individuals listed above, you can reach out to any of us municipal Commissioners or Municipal Manager Keith McGill if you have any questions or concerns. So, when the song asks, “Who you gonna call?” please call our knowledgeable and helpful Mt. Lebanon municipal staff.
