A southern-style, fast-casual restaurant is slated to open in Mt. Lebanon next week, complete with a full bar and fried chicken.
Bird on the Run will debut on May 16 or 17 at 1573 McFarland Road, the former home of Jose & Tony’s and most recently Zorros.
“It’s perfect for our concept with its two entrances,” said co-owner Cole Vazzana, 21, a University of Pittsburgh student who resides in Oakland.
This will be Bird on the Run’s fourth location, with other locations already open in East Liberty, Southside and Penn Hills. While the other locations sell frozen slushies and six packs to go, the Mt. Lebanon spot will be the first to offer a full bar.
Much of Bird on the Run’s business comes from online sales, including takeout and delivery. In Mt. Lebanon, one entrance will be dedicated to those types of orders, while the other side of the business includes eight tables and the bar. Oh, and there’s also a patio that’s perfect for outdoor dining.
Patrons will be able to order their food and drinks via a QR code placed on the tables. Servers and food runners will assist them throughout their meal.
“We’ve been looking to expand to the South Hills for a long time,” said Vazzana, whose dad lives in Mt. Lebanon on Driftwood Drive.
Bird on the Run will open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to midnight on Friday and Saturday and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday.
