banksville construction starts
You may want to think twice before heading either direction on Banksville Road for the next six months, A massive $4.7 million PennDot construction project from McFarland Road to the Parkway West begins Monday, June 4, and will last until December.
The project includes milling and resurfacing, culvert improvements, drainage, guide rail, curbing and traffic signal and signage upgrades over the 2.4 mile stretch—all much needed and ultimately welcome. But here’s the rub. Traffic will be single lane both ways from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Thursday and also from 8 p.m. Friday to 6 p.m. Monday as needed.
Banksville will be open two lanes both ways during the day, but drivers should expect delays and changing traffic patterns as the various aspects of the project progress.
West Liberty Avenue/Washington Road, the obvious alternative, could be backed up to the Galleria! Best bet might be to take the “T.”
We don’t have any other hot tips, except maybe to work from your home office when possible and allow plenty of time when heading into town for cultural or sports events.
People likely will find their own shortcuts or “longcuts. ” If you chart your course through feeder streets and residential neighborhoods, please drive carefully.
