Alexander McCall Smith will be this year’s speaker at Mt. Lebanon Public Library’s Joseph Wertheim Memorial Author Lecture, 7 p.m., Tuesday, October 18, at Mellon Middle School auditorium. McCall Smith is the author of the popular No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency series, the Isabel Dalhousie Mysteries, the 44 Scotland Street series and more than 40 other books. He was born in what is now Zimbabwe and was educated there and in Scotland. He became a law professor in Scotland, and helped to set up a new law school at the University of Botswana.
The Wertheim Lectures honor the memory of Joe Wertheim, an avid reader and long-time library patron who served nine years on the library board, including a term as president, and also served as the president of the Friends of Mt. Lebanon Public Library.
