You can expect to see the work of several new artists at this year’s Mt. Lebanon Artists’ Market, plus Plein Air Kids Paint Out is back!

On Saturday, October 1 and Sunday, October 2, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., four rows of booths will be set up in Uptown’s Academy Avenue parking lot to accommodate 61 artists exhibiting everything from jewelry to ceramic, wood, glass, 2D, fiber, photography and mixed media. This is the eighth year for the juried show, presented by the Mt. Lebanon Partnership.

The Paint Out takes place from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. both days. Children ages 3 to 12 are invited to join artist Sandra Ward and the Partnership to paint Uptown in a fun and safe environment, rain or shine. That booth will be located in the Elusive Auto Shine garage, behind The Saloon.

The Artists’ Market’s reach gets a little greater each year. Artists come from all over the tri-state area and some from as far away as New York and Indiana. “One of the beauties of our show, from the artists’ point of view, is the fact that it’s not real big. They like the idea that it’s small and I think our community likes the idea that it’s small,” said co-chair Wendy Denenberg.

Mt. Lebanon artist Karen Krieger, Holly Lane, who works mostly with decorative handmade papers, is doing the show again this year. “Because it’s local, it’s a great opportunity for me to share what I design and make with my Lebo community. For years, most of my work was sold in other parts of the country, so having a local show is a treat.  It’s also very well organized and managed, so I know what to expect,” she said.

Artists must submit at least three JPEGs of their work for judges to get a good representation.

“All the people who come to the show come with the expectation of spending money and buying, and the artists love that,” co-chair Steve Denenberg said.

“I love meeting the people who like my work. I’ve made some really nice connections with customers, which is wonderful,” Krieger echoed.

Many of the artists donate a small piece of work that’s raffled off each year to raise money for the Mt. Lebanon Partnership’s Artists’ Market scholarship. The recipient of this year’s $1,000 scholarship is Mt. Lebanon High School graduate Julia Chung.
