ARTISTS’ MARKET RETURNS The 2017 Mt. Lebanon Artists’ Market has morphed into more than an art show. It is a concert, food truck event, demonstration and participation opportunity.

On Saturday, September 23, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, September 24 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Uptown’s Academy Avenue parking lot will be filled with the work of more than 65 artisans from all over the region. Every medium is represented, from sculpture to jewelry to painting to wood and fiber.

The festival, presented by the Mt. Lebanon Partnership, includes a raffle to benefit the Mt. Lebanon Arts Initiative, which funds a scholarship for a student intending to major in art. The Hewlett-Anderson Band returns again this year to play pop/rock each day from noon to 3. And Tom Savini will return with his special makeup effects program—perfect if you want to scare your friends into thinking you’re a zombie or just caught a bullet in the forehead.

New this year is the Mt. Lebanon High School AP art students’ mixed-media showcase, demonstrating the types of art they are creating in the newly renovated high school studios. Jennifer Rodriguez, chair of the fine arts department, says the market will allow the public to see the top-level art the students create while also giving the students a taste of what it’s like to participate in a big show. The students won’t have art for sale, since it is so early in the school year.

There will be plenty of food choices. The vendor schedule is: Saturday: Arancini House, BRGR, Oh My Grill, Piccadilly, South Side Barbecue, Totopo and PGH Crepes. Sunday: Arancini House, BRGR, Piccadilly, Totopo and PGH Crepes.
