What should you know about our 2018 Cutest Pet Contest? It was fun. It was cute. It was the most wholesome thing in the history of the internet.

We received a whopping 539 submissions in round one, including 434 dogs, 82 cats, five bunnies, five guinea pigs/hamsters, four turtles, two birds, two chickens, two iguanas/lizards, one hermit crab, one mouse and one squirrel. Ten champions of cuteness—six dogs, three cats and one bunny—moved on to the semifinals, where three dashing doggos rose to the head of the pack.

In the final round, Margaux the French bulldog came in third with 425 cumulative votes. Zoey, a poodle mix who was in the lead until the finals, wound up coming in second place with 728 votes. And in a surprise twist, Snoop Dogg, a cheerful Shih-Tzu, took the crown with 833 total votes.

Snoop Dogg, who hails originally from Winchester, Virginia, was born on New Year’s Day in 2017. He has an older brother named Elvis, he loves to wear costumes, and he twirls for treats! His idea of a perfect date is April 25, because it’s not too hot, not too cold, all you need is a light jacket, and his deepest desire is for world peace. He would like to thank his momma, Georgia Hynes Connell, for submitting him in the contest, as well as his many adoring fans—he couldn’t have done it without all of you.

Congratulations to all of our pets and humans who participated this year. Thanks for making it our most successful Facebook contest to date! We hope to see you all again next year.
