Last weekend’s UltraParty was a big success, grossing $32,620. The Mt. Lebanon Partnership expects to net about $17,000, with most of it going to the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation, which sponsors several special-needs hockey teams.

Also last weekend, 53 pounds of batteries were recycled at the municipal building, and 19,307 lbs. of electronic equipment was recycled  at the public works building.  Curbside residential recycling totaled 180.53 tons in July.

The recreation department is hosting a new event called Star Party. This is a joint venture with the Amateur Astronomers Association where residents can stargaze at the golf course on September 21 at 8 p.m. Telescopes and assistance will be provided by the association.

The annual Wally Grant Junior Golf Tournament will be held at the golf course on August 13 and August 14. The tournament, which is open to Mt. Lebanon residents between the ages of 13 and 17, will consist of 18 holes of golf each day.

The rink is closed for maintenance from August 6 – 19.

The fire department responded to 27 incidents this week, including one fire response in Bethel Park—a basement fire in a single-family home; two overheats; five rescue and emergency medical incidents including a vehicle crash with the vehicle on its side on Castle Shannon Boulevard; two hazardous condition calls, including high levels of carbon monoxide in a residence on Briarwood Avenue caused by a problem with the water heater, two service calls, nine good intent calls, and six false alarms.

Police activity this week included the arrest of a 53-year-old man for public drunkenness on Hazel Drive; a 22-year-old Altoona Place man and two friends, ages 27 and 26, were arrested on similar charges. A 21-year-old male was arrested on Navahoe for criminal trespassing, prowling, and loitering; and an office on Castle Shannon Boulevard was entered and safes were taken.
