Mt. Lebanon celebrates Earth Day in Mt Lebanon Park, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday, April 30. This year’s theme is Invest in the Planet. The event will feature local businesses, artisans, nonprofits, environmental action groups, the Mt. Lebanon High School Environmental Club and members of Mt. Lebanon’s Environmental Sustainability Board. Presentations include opportunities for alternative and renewable energy, electrification and electric vehicles, ways to save energy at home, children’s activities, healthy soil information, air quality, water quality and energy efficiency.
The National Association of Emergency Medical Services Physicians (NAEMSP) recently honored Lavina Drive resident Dr. James Menegazzi by permanently naming its annual scientific sessions in his name. The NAEMSP holds the Menegazzi Scientific Sessions at its annual meeting in January. In addition to serving as editor in chief of the association’s journal, Prehospital Emergency Care, for 25 years, Menegazzi has won numerous awards for the research he has presented at the meeting over the years. He is a professor of emergency medicine at the University of Pittsburgh.
Steve Karlovich is Mt. Lebanon Magazine’s new advertising manager. Karlovich, has worked with the Pittsburgh Business Times and Executive Report Magazine as director of art and production, before owning Hoban Karlovich Inc, an advertising and design agency developing advertising campaigns for a variety of clients. He has spent the last several years selling real estate.
Karlovich lives on MacArthur Drive with his wife, Marianne. He spends his spare time fishing and working on his 1973 Dodge Charger.
Regis Morgavo-Ireland has been hired as a meter collection and parking enforcement specialist. Morgavo-Ireland, a 2019 Mt. Lebanon High School graduate, worked as a kitchen manager at Caliente, an Amazon delivery driver and a mail carrier.
The National Conference of Teachers of English graded Jefferson Middle School’s literary magazine, Our Piece of Mind, and Mellon Middle School’s The Outlook Excellent in its Recognizing Excellence in Art and Literary Magazines (REALM) awards program. Mt. Lebanon High School’s Pulse received an Award of Merit. Schools from 42 states and five countries entered nominations.
Jefferson Middle School student Marti Weisberg, was a finalist in Pittsburgh Public Theater’s Shakespeare Monologue and Scene contest. Weisberg’s performance as Lucencia in The Comedy of Errors earned her a spot in the lower division monologue category. More than 700 students entered the contest. Each of the students was offered a workshop by an actor from the Pittsburgh Public Theatre. Other Mt. Lebanon students who received honorable mentions in the contest, and their performances, were Foster Elementary student Theodore Alexander, Orsino from Twelfth Night; Rohan Parekh, Howe Elementary, Shylock in The Merchant of Venice; Mellon Middle School students Colin Bozick, Brutus in Julius Caesar; Even Dyrud, Orlando, As You Like It; Freyja Dyrud, Julia, Two Gentlemen of Verona; and high school students Piper Bozick, Polina, The Winter’s Tale; Brynn Murawski, Beatrice, As You Like It and Megan Greenfield, Dionysa, Pericles.
