Alaina Smith, Mt. Lebanon Class of 2021, produced a prize-winning entry for the international World of 7 Billion [1] video contest. Smith, now a freshman at The College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, used her interest in women’s health to create a video that examined the link between women’s health and global population growth.
Ken Horoho, Dixon Avenue, has been appointed by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court to its Committee on Rules of Evidence, to advise and assist the court in prescribing general rules governing all court proceedings in Pennsylvania.
Horoho is a member of the Pittsburgh-based family law firm Gentile, Horoho & Avalli. The Committee on Rules of Evidence studies and makes recommendations to the court about matters relating to evidence law in Pennsylvania. Horoho served for 12 years on the Allegheny County Bar Association’s Board of Governors and was Chair of its Family Law and Young Lawyer Sections. He served 13 years as an adjunct professor with the University of Pittsburgh School of Law.
Dr. Leo R. McCafferty, Osage Road, has received the Distinguished Service Award from The Aesthetic Society. The Aesthetic Society is an international organization devoted to the advancement of cosmetic surgery. The Distinguished Service Award recognizes dedication, service, and/or contributions to the development, well-being and success of the society. McCafferty is a former president of the society, and has served on several society committees and task forces. McCafferty is a past president of the Allegheny County Medical Society. He has also served on the board of the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities and the Aesthetic Surgery Education and Research Foundation. He is also a clinical assistant professor of plastic surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.
