The Bubbles are coming down. We are not referring to the mythical Lake Wobegon-style Mt. Lebanon “Bubble” that residents often joke hovers over our town to keep us safe, warm and happy. We are talking the real canvas bubbles at the Mt. Lebanon Tennis Center, an award-winning place for people of all ages to exercise, socialize and compete. The bubbles keep our tennis center serving people all year long, even in the cold, dank days of winter, thanks to a longtime partnership between the municipality and the privately run Indoor Tennis Mt. Lebanon. But in April, the bubbles come down (thanks to some amazing student volunteers) and we let the sun shine in on your volley.

Writer Merle Jantz breaks down the center’s story, including the reason why our Har-Tru courts are so prized, along with a history of top tourneys and famous players who have competed on our “clay.”

Recycling has been on everyone’s mind ever since our new trash and recycling contract that started in January excluded glass and most plastics.
