About the Issue: April 2019

The Bubbles are coming down. We are not referring to the mythical Lake Wobegon-style Mt. Lebanon “Bubble” that residents often joke hovers over our town to keep us safe, warm and happy. We are talking the real canvas bubbles at the Mt. Lebanon Tennis Center, an award-winning place for people of all ages to exercise, socialize and compete. The bubbles keep our tennis center serving people all year long, even in the cold, dank days of winter, thanks to a longtime partnership between the municipality and the privately run Indoor Tennis Mt. Lebanon. But in April, the bubbles come down (thanks to some amazing student volunteers) and we let the sun shine in on your volley.
Writer Merle Jantz breaks down the center’s story, including the reason why our Har-Tru courts are so prized, along with a history of top tourneys and famous players who have competed on our “clay.”
We also direct your attention to our recycling update, where you can get a breakdown of all the recycling events happening this spring and summer. Recycling has been on everyone’s mind ever since our new trash and recycling contract that started in January excluded glass and most plastics. Since then, the municipality has been working hard to make sure residents can recycle as much as possible, safely and cost effectively.
Catch a first glimpse of Mt. Lebanon’s six new police officers, and get busy planning your next landscaping project in a feature by local landscape designer Claire Schuchman.
By next month, we expect to have some exciting announcements for you in addition to the 2018 Popular Annual Financial Report, an important document that lets you know how your tax dollars are being spent. In the meantime, stay on top of the latest news by regularly visiting our website, signing up for The Seven Ten, our bi-weekly newsletter, reading trending topics on mtlebanon.org and getting the minute-by-minute updates by signing up for LeboALERT and following our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts.
Then, get outside, meet some friends and neighbors on the sidewalk and take in one of our fabulous new restaurants. Or grab a coffee and watch the Lax Rats play on the turf. Remember why you call Mt. Lebanon home. We’ll see you out there.
