A new Sunset Hills business just opened to serve the community while making a positive impact on the environment. Wonderfill, 370 Broadmoor Avenue, will serve as Mt. Lebanon’s hub for eco-friendly, locally sourced products.

Owner Holly Rudoy, a Mayfair Drive resident for the past 25 years, was inspired to open Wonderfill after experiencing the convenience and sustainability of refill shopping in Somerset.

“I learned that refill shopping is really great because you can get the exact amount of a product that you want, try it out and keep refilling your own bottles,” said Rudoy. “Everything about it just clicked.”

It wasn’t long before she envisioned bringing the experience closer to home.

The store has a wide range of products, including laundry detergent, dish soap and bath products, which are kept in large containers. You can either bring your own container, purchase one from the store or take one from the free community shelf. Then you can fill up your container with as much or as little of the product as you’d like—they charge by weight at the register.

In addition to the refill products, Wonderfill also has a sizable collection of locally sourced products. From specialty candles to tote bags, produce bags, reusable napkins, lip balms, bars of lotion, shower steamers, dryer balls and more, Wonderfill is full of eco-conscious items. Rudoy’s family and friends play an integral role in the business, helping sample products and decide what to offer in the store.

Wonderfill was a vendor at the recent Winter Market & Holiday Celebration in Uptown, where they showcased products prior to the store opening. Rudoy described the market as “a great experience and huge success. We had 66 transactions in just 5 hours. It really showed us that Mt. Lebanon is ready for this kind of business.”

Rudoy also envisions the shop as a place for people to donate and give back to their community. Wonderfill is currently running two donation campaigns. Shoppers can donate corks to be sent in bulk to a local business which repurposes them into shoe soles. They’re also encouraged to bring in extra yarn, which will be made into hats by a local business and both sold in the store and donated.

The store’s operating hours, subject to change, are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Thursday from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. There is free parking on-street and behind the store. You can visit Wonderfill’s website at wonderfillmarket.com.
