9/11 Lebo Remembers
Students, teachers, administrators and first responders gathered outside Markham Elementary School Monday for a Patriot Day 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony.
Markham Elementary School Principal Jocelyn Artinger opened the program, while fifth-graders Garrett Glynn and Lona Jalali gave a special welcome to the Mt. Lebanon first responders in attendance.
Fifth-grader Ella Lofgren introduced members of the Markham Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and Indie Scouts for the flag raising ceremony, saluting 9/11 heroes and those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.
“I think there’s value in bringing the community together and honoring the legacy of, not only the first responders and everyday heroes of September 11, but also having the opportunity to thank our Mt. Lebanon police and fire department as well as our EMTs. They all work very closely with the school, very diligently to protect and serve our community every day,” said Artinger.
Fifth-grade Boy Scout Johnny Baldridge led the Pledge of Allegiance in English, followed by third grader Mia Solorzano reciting it in Spanish.
Markham fifth-grader Kalina Lazarova read from the list of “Don’t Forgets” and “Remembers.”
Finally a musical performance of “50 Stars” sung and signed by Markham kindergartners rounded out the program.
