75 years of 25 women
In honor of their 75th anniversary, The Twenty-Five Club of Magee-Women’s Hospital of UPMC will present an open-to-the-public evening November 1, when they’ll auction off more than 30 autographed and hand-painted chairs. Held at the Omni William Penn, “The Cradle Will Rock: A Platinum Affair” will include dinner, a live band and a grant and funding announcement regarding their future projects. The Twenty-Five Club raises money for babies: neonatal care, research and incubators, laboratories, special equipment, specialist technician and even physician salaries are all areas they’ve funded over the years. Members come from all over the Pittsburgh area, including Mt. Lebanon.
The hand-painted chairs have been donated by a variety of local artists; Kathleen Hartman decorated a child-sized rocking chair painted with an image of Peter Cottontail, while Kait Schoeb illustrated one chair with a detailed image of Mr. Rogers, a Pittsburgh hometown icon. Chairs autographed by local sports stars, including Mario Lemieux, also are on the auction block. The chairs aren’t the only things being sold at the event, though. There will also be $75 raffle tickets available for a Rolex watch or a trip to Barbados, private home included.
Cocktails and appetizers begin at 7 p.m. If you’d like an invitation to the event, please contact Debbie Barbarita at d.barbarita@verizon.net or 412-831-0367.
