Holocaust observance to recognize heroes
South Hills Interfaith Ministries will host the 33rd annual Holocaust observance on Sunday, April 29 from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Temple Emanuel of the South Hills, Bower Hill Road. This year’s event is titled “Sugihara: Circle of Courage” and will recognize Chiune Sugihara, a vice consul of the Japanese Consulate in Lithuania during World War II. Sugihara, his wife and a group of others moved more than 6,000 Jews out of Lithuania in 1940.
The service will include music by Pittsburgh Symphony violinist Paul Silver and Mt. Lebanon High School students. Many members of the local clergy will participate and Holocaust survivors and family members will light candles. Details: shim-center.org.
