ith a golf course, a swimming pool, an ice rink, a tennis center and several parks and ballfields, the Mt. Lebanon Recreation Department will keep you moving all year long. Team and league play in multiple sports, fitness and wellness classes and a wide range of special events, senior programs and summer camps are on the menu. The department employs more than 100 people, from regular staff to lifeguards and instructors. The team also coordinates several hundred volunteers.
NEW The recreation department is hosting a chess camp the week of June 19. The camp will be held Monday through Friday from 1 to 3 p.m., for ages 7 to 16.
The tennis center is holding an open house from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., on Saturday, May 13. Rain date is Sunday, May 14, same time frame. Pros will be available for free tips and advice. Clock your serve with the radar gun. Other fun activities are in the works.
At the golf course, the Manager’s Pavilion will be available to rent this season for golf outings and other golf-related events. The cost to rent the pavilion is $59.
The recreation center has a new roof replacement underway. It should be completed before the swim center opens.
NOTEWORTHY The recreation department is partnering with Western Pennsylvania Blind Outdoor Leisure Development (BOLD) for skating at the ice center through June 8, from noon to 1:30 p.m. The department needs sighted ice skaters to be guides on and off the ice for blind and visually impaired skaters.
The tennis center is hosting the Pro Circuit event again this year. The center will be closed to the public on Friday, July 21, at noon, and will reopen to the public on Friday, July 28. This is the 21st year of this pro event. The center will also be hosting seven other junior tournaments this summer.
The swim center has a Dive-In Movie/Pool Party scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on July 21.
The department is still seeking lifeguards, cashiers and pool supervisors.
Advertising opportunities exist at the ice center, ballfields and golf course. Ads can fit on the rink dasher boards and the side panel of the Zamboni, golf course tees and scorecards, and vinyl banners at Middle, Dixon and Clint Seymour fields.
NEED TO KNOW Mt. Lebanon’s Community Day begins at noon on July 4. Children’s activities, games, rides, food vendors, and community booths will be set up in the park from noon to 5 p.m., followed by a concert in the park at 7:30 p.m. and a fireworks spectacular by Zambelli International at 9:30 p.m. Fireworks rain date is July 5.
Ice skating birthday parties are available on weekends throughout the summer.
The swim center opens on Saturday, May 27. On Memorial Day, Monday, May 29, you can purchase pool passes inside the rink from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
