Earlier this year, the Mt. Lebanon Public Library installed a solar array on its roof. [3] The $125,000 roof is expected to generate more than 30,000 kilowatt hours of power in its first year. Composed of 62 490-watt panels with room for more, the panels and inverters are warrantied, and the roof should produce energy for up to 30 years.

NOTEWORTHY Summer reading will be back in full swing this year for all ages. Fun events and reading incentives begin in June and continue through August. Beanstack, an online reading challenge tool, allows for families to register together. Visit www.mtlebanonlibrary.org [4] this month for additional information.

The summer concert series will be expanding with more opportunities to hear music throughout the summer and into the fall.
The children’s library always has something going on any time of the day with fun self-directed family programs, scavenger hunts and an ever-changing I-Spy tank, STEAM boxes to explore with themes like magnets, architecture and animal tracks, and a great family play area for young ones and their caretakers to play and make new friends.

Check out www.mtlebanonlibrary.org [4]to learn about all the great digital streaming options that the library provides to its patrons. The library recently purchased a digital edition of BookPage [5]—a great resource for finding new books to read—that you can access directly from the website.

NEED TO KNOW The library has a series of programs through the Shine Initiative that highlight mental wellness. Programs are year-round. Check www.mtlebanonlibrary.org [6] for the spring and summer Shine events.

The Friends of Mt. Lebanon Public Library operate The Book Cellar, a used book store located in the lower level of the library, open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. You can also shop online [7].

The library’s biggest fundraiser is its annual garden tour. This year’s tour is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, June 25, and features seven gardens.

Tickets go on sale May 1 and will be available both at the circulation desk and online. Tickets will be $20 if purchased prior to tour day, $25 on the day of the tour. Garden Tour raffle baskets go on display in the library June 1. Raffle tickets will be $1 for 1, $5 for 6.
