10 free things @ the library
A library isn’t just for books anymore—here are 10 free things besides books that you can get at Mt. Lebanon Library (and we didn’t even mention that your library card itself is free).
LOOK IT UP Tired of wading through thousands of websites trying to find the most reliable information? The library offers 80+ reliable databases, from Auto Repair Reference and Consumer Health Complete to LexisNexis.
MEET UP Hosting a meeting for a few people? Book a library study room by calling 412-531-1912.
TRY IT OUT If you aren‘t sure you’re a Kindle or Nook type, check one of the e-readers out of the library and give it a go before spending the money.
FIGURE IT OUT Totally clueless about how to use your new Kindle, BlackBerry, iPad or other gadget? Sign up for a one-on-one workshop.
JUST ASK Sometimes even Wikipedia can’t help. When that happens, call 412-531-1912 or, for information about texting and emailing, go to www.mtlebanonlibrary.org/reference/ask-librarian.
BE ENTERTAINED Log on to www.mtlebanon library.org and then click on “eMedia Collection” for links to movies and music you can download to your computer, iPod, Droid or SmartPhone.
SPEAK THE LANGUAGE Use your library card number to access the Mango Languages database, an online learning system with lessons in 45 languages (even Pirate!). Then attend one of the language groups to hone your new skills.
GET OUT Take a class, join a book club, play games. From folk songs and gardening to history and science fiction, there are free programs for all ages.
IN THE BAG Going on a long car ride? Welcoming grandkids for a visit? Call the library and order a bag of CDs, DVDs, books and magazines that will keep any child occupied and happy. You can even request that all the materials relate to a theme—magic, the Grand Canyon, history, you name it. The bags also are great for babysitters and for sick days.
CHECK IT OUT Did you know Mt. Lebanon Library offers dozens of magazine titles and that back issues—which are stored in a bin under the current issue—can be checked out?
